The Benefits of a Brow Lift

The Benefits of a Brow Lift

While age brings wisdom, it can also bring wrinkles. For many people, wrinkles, fine lines, folds and creases on the forehead and between the eyebrows are some of the first signs of aging to appear. Loosening skin can also cause your eyebrows to droop, making you look older and constantly tired — even when you feel well-rested.

If you’re concerned about these changes, a brow lift can help. Below, we cover what a brow lift treats, what’s new on our surgical team, and how to know whether a brow lift, eyelid surgery, or both are the right fit for your goals.

What Does a Brow Lift Treat?

A brow lift lifts drooping brows and softens forehead lines by repositioning the brow and tightening the underlying tissue. The benefits of a brow lift include:

  • Reducing the appearance of wrinkles across the forehead, between the eyes and on the bridge of your nose
  • Decreasing the severity of vertical creases between the eyebrows
  • Lifting brows that are hanging low over your upper eyelids
  • Providing a younger, more rested appearance

By bringing the brows to a better position, patients are often able to relax their forehead muscles, which can help with chronic headaches and reduce further skin creasing.

Our Approach to a Natural-Looking Brow Lift

The goal of surgery is to gently lift the brows, helping to bring excess brow skin off of the upper eyelids and create a more elegant arch. Patients often tell us they’re worried about looking “done” after a brow lift. Our surgeons at Sound Plastic Surgery are deliberate about avoiding an artificial, surprised look — the aim is always a refreshed, natural version of you.

Choosing Between Upper and Lower Blepharoplasty

The right eyelid surgery for you depends on where your eyes are showing the most signs of aging: heavy, hooded upper lids call for upper blepharoplasty, while puffy or bagged under-eyes call for lower blepharoplasty — and many patients benefit from both.

Benefits of Upper Blepharoplasty

Upper blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fat from the upper eyelid, which is often the first area to show visible aging. Benefits include:

  • Revealing a defined upper eyelid crease
  • Creating more visible eyelid surface for makeup application
  • Removing skin that hoods over the lash line for a more alert, open-eyed appearance
  • In more advanced cases, improving upper and peripheral vision that had been obstructed by excess skin

Benefits of Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower blepharoplasty addresses puffiness, bags and fine wrinkling below the eye by removing or repositioning fat and tightening loose skin. Benefits include:

  • Smoothing under-eye bags and puffiness
  • Softening fine lines and creases along the lower lid
  • Reducing the shadowing that can make you look tired or older than you feel
  • Creating a smoother transition between the lower lid and cheek

Upper vs. Lower Blepharoplasty at a Glance

Not Sure If You Need a Brow Lift, Blepharoplasty, or Both?

It’s common to mistake a low, heavy brow for hooded upper eyelids, since both can make the eyes look tired or smaller. During your consultation, our surgeons will evaluate whether your brow position, your eyelid skin, or a combination of both is contributing to your concerns, and recommend the combination of brow lift and eyelid lift surgery that will give you the most natural, balanced result.
